Dell'Oro Determines SD-WAN Space Set for Growth

August 23, 2018

As a Jets fan it’s been some time since I’ve had something to root for.  Like most Jets fans walking the earth in 2018 I did not have the honor of experiencing Joe Namath not only carry gang green to its lone Super Bowl victory, but predict the win as well – quite confidently, I might add. In baseball, Yankee fans are well aware of Babe Ruth infamously calling his shot in the 1932 World Series. While both of these occurrences unlikely, these all time greats knew what they were capable.

In technology, we tend to crown the victors long before the results are in so to tag SD-WAN as a head turning, transformational, game-changing technology while still in its infancy is nothing outside of the norm. The extraordinary piece is how it is living up to the hype, besting predictions at every turn. Most recently, the Dell-Oro Group project a CAGR of 35 percent over the next five years.

Dell'Oro Group's Advanced Research: SD-WAN Report notes enterprise sales to make up the majority of the coming surge with another market segment expected to drive this maturing market is managed service providers. The report predicts an average annual growth rate of more than 40 percent over the next five years.

"The SD-WAN software components are the key differentiators of vendors' offerings, and we expect controller and virtualized network functions software revenue to account for the large majority of the market size," said Shin Umeda, Vice President at Dell'Oro Group. "Over time, software innovation will drive the SD-WAN market while hardware will increasingly be commoditized," added Umeda.

SD-WAN is still maturing, but it is making its way to the primetime. Sometimes it’s easy for even some of the greats to shrivel under the bright lights, but SD-WAN continues to stand tall.

What’s in your WAN?

Day 3 of Cisco Live is history! For Fiber Mountain, we continued to enjoy visits from decision makers and influencers who were eager to share their data center and structured cabling challenges.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.

Day 1, Cisco Live!

Fiber Mountain is exhibiting at Cisco Live! In Las Vegas for the first time ever! Our first day was hugely successful from just about any perspective - from quantity and quality of booth visitors to successful meetings with customers.
