Transforming Network Infrastructure Week in Review: NFV, Sysdig, Cavium and More

April 23, 2016

If I told you dragons were real, you’d probably tell me I was nuts without thinking twice about it. But, what if I could show you they were real? How would you react? Rest easy, they are not real – as far as I know – but I use this imagery to introduce an idea. What is taking place in the data center is unreal, in the sense that 10 years ago we never could have imagined where network infrastructure is today. Allow me to show you.

We have all heard the phrase, “Time is money,” and in today’s always-on, always plugged-in world this statement could never hold more truth. TMC’s Paula Bernier discussed ways to control latency using optical systems. Bernier’s full breakdown is HERE.

NFV is an area of growing interest, and from the software-defined data center (SDDC) to 5G and beyond the data center is pushing the limits of what’s possible. Cavium, a developer of semiconductor hardware announced this week that as a result of several development partnerships it is ready to put its efforts on display at the NFV World Congress. Casey Houser’s complete analysis is HERE.

This week in the Transforming Network Infrastructure community we not only put up a new poll, but delved into the results of our previous survey. With a focus on storage traffic, we learned that by a wide margin firms are providing storage traffic with a dedicated network. The entire article is HERE.

Sysdig announced it has received $15 million in a series B round of funding from the likes of Bain Capital Ventures and Accel. Why such interest? Sysdig works with an area of the data center that enterprises are paying great attention to: containers. In specific, Sysdig provides visibility and monitoring tools for environments using containers. Everything you need to know is HERE.

Remember to stop by early and often for your fill of all things network transformation – it’s never fun not knowing.

See you next week!

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.

Fiber Mountain is exhibiting at Cisco Live! In Las Vegas for the first time ever! Our first day was hugely successful from just about any perspective - from quantity and quality of booth visitors to successful meetings with customers.
