Juniper Networks Demonstrates New Data Center Switch to Enhance Performance of Real-Time, Latency-Sensitive Applications

April 13, 2015

Juniper Networks has announced a new data center switch for financial services institutions that will significantly improve the performance of business-critical applications in latency-sensitive computing environments. The data center switch is comprised of the QFX5100-AA application acceleration switch and QFX-PFA packet flow accelerator module, which are integrated with customizable software logic from Maxeler Technologies.

Juniper’s newest offering addresses the massive amounts of multi-sourced information that financial institutions must analyze and process in order to make intelligent trading decisions; relevant applications include those that deal with market data feeds, social media feeds, order execution routing and big data analytics. The QFX5100-AA and QFX-PFA considerably reduce the cost and complexity of trading infrastructure using a compute-integrated networking approach, which distributes computing across data center network infrastructure for maximum performance and predictability for the lowest cost with minimal latency. Bringing compute-integrated networking into the network unlocks the potential of big-data analytics and helps financial institutions take advantage of emerging market opportunities such as hyper-contextual trading.

“The possibilities of compute-integrated networking are transformative across a broad variety of financial services, including equities and commodities exchanges, market data providers, high-frequency trading and credit processing,” said Andrew Bach, chief architect for Juniper Networks’ Financial Services Team. “We see great potential in other sectors for this technology, including energy, research, education and large enterprises. With the introduction of Juniper Networks QFX5100-AA and QFX-PFA, we are delivering new computing capabilities within the data center network to ensure that our customers can make the most informed split-second investment decisions.”

Juniper’s solution provides access to comprehensive data center network architecture that enhances the QFX5100 with a 40G Ethernet switch that uses an Intel Xeon processor and Broadcom switching silicon as well as the QFX-PFA with an Altera multi-100G field-programmable gate array. Integration with Maxeler Technologies’ dataflow programming environment lets customers develop customized applications to meet their individual needs, whereas the Junos carrier-grade operating system and Junos Space Network Director provide a single point of control for automation, scaling and management of data centers. Juniper’s Cloud Analytics Engine includes high frequency network monitoring and data analysis to enable better visibility and performance of the network.

Using these tools financial service providers will be able to streamline network operations and perform rapid analyses of large amounts of data for nearly immediate response times. The QFX5100-AA and QFX-PFA will be available in Q3 2015.

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
