Infinera Makes Cloud Xpress 2 Generally Available

June 08, 2017

Infinera has made its new Cloud Xpress 2 solution generally available. This offering provides data center interconnect companies with efficient, scalable, and secure 100 gigabit Ethernet services.

In fact, Cloud Xpress 2 is already in use in some major Internet content proviInfinera der networks. This solution leverages Infinera’s Instant Bandwidth technology. That allows customers to activate their own bandwidth in 100 gigabit per second increments within minutes.

“Infinera has taken optical transport to the next level, by integrating ICE4 technology into Intelligent Transport Network platforms,” said Stuart Elby, Senior Vice President of Cloud Network Strategy and Technology at Infinera. “Major ICPs are deploying the Cloud Xpress 2 for its extreme simplicity, multi-terabit scalability and efficiency. The early adoption of the Cloud Xpress 2 underscores our customers’ need for a purpose-built DCI solution to enable continued rapid growth in their hyperscale networks.”

This solution also features application programming interfaces. It has built-in hardware-based data encryption. It is high density – delivering 1.2

terabits per second of line-side capacity in a single rack unit. And it is a low power use solution.

Cloud Xpress 2 also provides plug-and-play installation. And it leverages software-defined networking for activation automation and ease of scaling.

Infinera first came to market with its Cloud Xpress back in 2014. As of the end of last year, revenue from Cloud Xpress was more than double that of all of the rest of the compact purpose-built DCI solutions in the market combined, according to Infinera.

“Infinera raised the bar in the industry with the Cloud Xpress, beating its competition to the market with a platform purpose-built for DCI,” said Andrew Schmitt, Founder and Lead Analyst at Cignal AI. “The general availability of the Cloud Xpress 2 places Infinera in a leadership position to continue meeting the challenging technical, cost and high-volume requirements of cloud and content provider networks.”

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
