Yahoo! Japan Jumps at Digital Transformation

December 07, 2016

The digital transformation taking place is opening doors to modernization and innovation, but a key component to this transformation is ensuring the network is capable of supporting the barrage of traffic demands at hand. Yahoo! Japan was faced with this dilemma recently, and this week announced that it deployed Infinera Cloud Xpress to interconnect its Osaka data centers and support the demand from residential and business services.

“Yahoo! JAPAN's data centers house a large number of servers so both space and power are limited,” stated Ms. Miyuki Tsunekawa, Backbone, Site Operations Division at Yahoo! JAPAN. “The Infinera Cloud Xpress enables the easy deployment of 100 Gb/s capacity in a compact solution with low power consumption, ideally suited for our data center environment.”

Yahoo! Japan collaborated with Infinera partner ITOCHU Techno-Solutions to deploy the Infinera Cloud Xpress because ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporations is responsible for information technology and data center maintenance services for Yahoo! Japan.

offering its customers the best solutions for data center interconnect as DCI applications become more pervasive across the globe,” noted Andrew Bond-Webster, Vice President, Regional Sales APAC at Infinera.

Cloud Xpress is a plug-and-play type solution, with user friendly provisioning, and utilizes SDN and APIs to support data center automation. The newly implemented DCI solution leverages photonic integrated circuit technology to deliver 500Gb/s speeds at over 150 kilometers. And, included in the deployment is Infinera’s Instant Bandwidth solution integrated within Cloud Xpress to offer additional bandwidth easily activated via software.

“The compact design, ease of use and scalability of Cloud Xpress and the XTM Series stand out in metro data center interconnect applications where data center operators need to grow capacity rapidly while minimizing the cost of space and power,” Bond-Webster explained.

The cloud is an integral piece to the digital transformation pie, and leveraging resources in an efficient way to support the next generation of network demands. And, not to mention, ensure the end user has an exceptional experience.

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
