Transforming Network Infrastructure Week in Review: Brexit, Device42, Virtualization & More

July 09, 2016

The transformation of network infrastructure is certainly a sight to see. The adoption of nascent technologies like SDN, cloud and beyond is improving efficiency, performance as well as the bottom line. And, with the weekend upon us, there is no better time than the present to take a look at the week that was in network transformation: time for the Week in Review!

Energy efficiency has long been a focal point of data center operators. And today, as communications service providers transition to digital service providers, and network traffic continues to experience an uptick, it means even greater reliance on efficient data center performance and energy usage. Recently, the new “United States Data Center Energy Usage Report” was released, and TMC’s Frank Griffin has everything you need to know HERE.

Here in the United States, the circus that is the political process has been front and center for some time, but on the other side of the pond a recent political stand by the U.K. can affect much in the way of the European data center market. Susan Campbell breaks down Brexit’s effect on the European data center landscape HERE.

Also in the news this week, DCIM software provider Device42 announced that it partnered with Olive Data Center to expand its reach into new markets—i.e. Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. Olive has over 25 years in the IT solution provider space, and this partnership should serve as a win-win for both sides. The complete article is HERE.

Sometimes new is scary. Sometimes new is the kid on the playground that nobody wants to play with. But other times new is the next big thing, such is the case with virtualization in the data center. Virtualization has disrupted the data center in various ways, and Steve Anderson’s analysis on the topic is HERE.

Remember to stop by early and often, as the real fireworks are happening in network transformation! See you next week!

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
