NoviFlow Selects Ixia to Validate SDN Switch Performance

August 01, 2016

Software Defined Networking (SDN) has forever changed the way network operators manage, maintain and deploy their infrastructure and services. As the number of devices, people and business that rely on digital technology continues to increase, SDN will be that much more important. For companies that provide SDN and switching solutions, their technology they must be validated in order to prove that performance and reliability. NoviFlow, a developer of high-performance switching solutions and applications, has selected Ixia to carry out the tests that will certify its SDN Ethernet switches.

NoviFlow provides services for organizations that demand high network control, flexibility, scalability and capacity. These organizations, which include network carriers, hyperscale data center operators, and enterprises have to maintain maximum network performance, while handling extremely large numbers of flows. In order to provide these capabilities, NoviFlow developed NoviSwitch, an OpenFlow switching solution that offers up to 240 gigabits per second of true wire-speed performance.

NoviFlow's President and CEO Dominique Jodoin, said, "NoviFlow provides the highest performance OpenFlow networking products in the world. Our customers include tier one network carriers, hyperscale cloud providers, and enterprises data centers, companies that will put our claims to the test. Ixia products are a fundamental part of our testing process, giving NoviFlow both the confidence needed to stake our performance claims, and the evidence needed to back them up.”

The role for Ixia is to use its IxNetwork to emulate SDN switches, hosts, and applications in order to test SDN controllers, and test SDN

switches by emulating controllers and hosts. The network resides on its XGS12-SD 12-slot modular chassis, which according to the company powers the industry’s highest port density Ethernet test. This allows the Ixia platform to create real-world conditions in which high demand organizations will be facing when they are fully operational. Ixia generates multiple terabytes of data, analyzing up to four million traffic flows simultaneously, which is what hyperscale data centers experience.

The IxNetwork can offer test coverage from 1G to 400G Ethernet with comprehensive protocol coverage for routing/switching, multiprotocol label switching (MPLS), broadband access, industrial Ethernet (IE), data center networking, and SDN. It works just as effectively in virtualized network environments, and runs from any commercially available compute environment delivering end-to-end test system automation.

With these features, NoviFlow will have a comprehensive solution for performance, functionality, security and conformance testing of its data center switches. This will give its customers the assurance they need when they are ready to deploy NoviSwitch or any of its future products.

Day 4 was the final day of our first ever Cisco Live! We had a great show, with many great conversations and new connections with existing and potential end users, resellers, partners and job hunters.

Day 3, Cisco Live!

Day 3 of Cisco Live is history! For Fiber Mountain, we continued to enjoy visits from decision makers and influencers who were eager to share their data center and structured cabling challenges.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.

Day 1, Cisco Live!

Fiber Mountain is exhibiting at Cisco Live! In Las Vegas for the first time ever! Our first day was hugely successful from just about any perspective - from quantity and quality of booth visitors to successful meetings with customers.
