Aligned Data Centers and Plexxi Partner for Data Centers as a Utility

July 11, 2016

Recent developments in IT has made it possible to obtain services which in the past required costly expenditures for on-premises deployments. This is primarily driven by cloud technology and the hosted services it is making available for customers large and small. The latest development in this evolution is the announcement of the partnership between Aligned Data Centers and Plexxi, which will make it possible to provision data center capacity and connectivity as an on-demand utility.

According to Aligned Data Centers, "This partnership will deliver an integrated network and data center alternative that can be consumed as an on-demand utility." The company took an ingenious approach to use resources that are underutilized in the industry by giving cloud providers and enterprises a plug-and-play platform with pods that can be dynamically provisioned to deliver on-demand flexibility for each individual case or application.

The pods are not limited in their scope, which according to the company, they can scale IT resource requirements beginning with a single rack environment and going up all the way to thousands without any predefined rack space or network capacity requirements. This is an important component of this service, because without this type of flexibility and scalability, having on demand data center and network services would have been impractical in today's digital ecosystem.

With this solution in place, cloud service providers who were limited because of access can now increase their capacity with speed and agility, while being able to expand and adjust to the growth without having to be locked in long and expensive contracts with data centers.

"Cloud players need data center infrastructure that is as agile and frictionless as provisioning servers, storage and software. Our partnership solves for this by allowing customers to provision infrastructure capacity to align with application needs, significantly reducing stranded capacity and improving speed," said Aligned Energy CEO Jakob Carnemark.

This new innovation is a truly disruptive way to deliver data center services by reinventing the traditional data center architecture. This is the first application defined data center which delivers power, space and cooling to the customer so they can adjust based on their application and requirements. As Plexxi CEO Rich Napolitano, puts it, "This has never been done before, and truly revolutionizes the cost model of building reliable data centers."

In order to continue this development and mode of delivering services in this fashion, Aligned Data Centers is increasing its investment and construction of new large centers. These new facilities are ultra-efficient and use the company's patented next-generation technologies to deliver both high-availability and high-efficiency while guaranteeing an industry-leading 1.15 PUE and reducing water consumption by as much as 85 percent. The company opened such a center in Plano, TX November 2015, and construction is underway for its second facility in Phoenix, AZ., which will be one of the largest multi-tenant data centers in Arizona.

Day 3 of Cisco Live is history! For Fiber Mountain, we continued to enjoy visits from decision makers and influencers who were eager to share their data center and structured cabling challenges.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
