Transforming Network Transformation Week in Review: SDDC, Fiber Mountain, EMC & More

July 02, 2016

Today’s data center is a far cry from just a few short years ago. The network transformation taking place is leveraging burgeoning technologies like SDN, the cloud and beyond to bring about improved performance, efficiency and cost savings. And, with the holiday weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look at the week that was: Time for the Week in Review!

The new frontier in data center operations is software defined, and this week TMC’s Paula Bernier delved into what it is going to take to make the Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) meet the hype.  There are several hurdles holding this nascent technology at bay, and Bernier explores every nook and cranny of the issue HERE.

Fiber Mountain, The Glass Core Company, was recently awarded a 2016 INTERNET TELELEPHONY SDN Excellence Award for its automated meet-me-room solution, the CrossCage Plus. Fiber Mountain CEO M. H. Raza explained, “CrossCage Plus is the fundamental enabling technology that automates the process of delivering software enabled connection services to colocation tenants from carrier Meet Me rooms, managed service offerings and for inter-cage commerce opportunities, fostering a colocation ecosystem where tenants can purchase services with the click of a button.” Find the complete article HERE.

The open source debate is nothing new, but this week EMC vice president of technology, Joshua Bernstein planted his flag in the open source camp. Bernstein proclaimed the modern data center must run on open source, and the support for his argument can be found HERE.

Also in the news this week, Big Switch released some enhancements it has made to its SDN offerings, introducing added value and additional use cases. Specifically, its Big Cloud Fabric and Big Monitoring Fabric received improvements to provide improved network monitoring and performance.  Steve Anderson has everything you need to know HERE.

Remember to stop by early and often, as the real fireworks are happening in network transformation! See you next week!

Day 3, Cisco Live!

Day 3 of Cisco Live is history! For Fiber Mountain, we continued to enjoy visits from decision makers and influencers who were eager to share their data center and structured cabling challenges.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.

Day 1, Cisco Live!

Fiber Mountain is exhibiting at Cisco Live! In Las Vegas for the first time ever! Our first day was hugely successful from just about any perspective - from quantity and quality of booth visitors to successful meetings with customers.
