EdgeConneX and DQE Communications Partner to Bring Faster Connectivity

March 11, 2016

Internet usage has changed dramatically in the last 10 years. The introduction of smart mobile devices, the cloud, virtualization and streaming services have increased the traffic growth exponentially, and it is projected to grow at a CAGR of 30 to 50 percent over the next five years. For many organization, rapid access to these services and technology is critical, and without edge data centers, it takes that much longer to get the resources they need.

A new partnership between EdgeConneX, a company that specializes in global data center solutions at the edge of the network, and DQE communications is going to bring faster, more resilient Internet and connectivity to enterprises in Pittsburgh.

Jim Morozzi, president and CEO, DQE Communications, said, "Building directly into the Pittsburgh Edge Data Center allows us to offer businesses faster, more reliable connections into the facility, as well as access to high-bandwidth Internet, Ethernet and Wavelength services needed for day-to-day business."

For business critical applications as well as many other real-time services, proximity matters. Data centers that are deployed at the edge of the network ensure ILEC, cable and content providers can deliver their service instantly. This partnership will give EedgConneX the private, secure and customizable dark fiber network of DQE Communications for efficient transmission of services between enterprise facilities and transport to the Internet that is cost effective.

The secure Ethernet services DQE provides are available from 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps over its redundant, business-class fiber optic network, which it owns and operates. This allows the company to offer its customers carrier-class Service Level Agreements (SLAs) enterprises demand.

The transport infrastructure of DQE will now give EdgeConneX's newly launched Pittsburgh Edge Data Center (EDC) the ability to deliver highly critical, time sensitive and bandwidth-intensive content and cloud applications for enterprises in the city.

"Connecting the EDC with DQE's fiber network brings us one step closer to alleviating Internet congestion and enabling faster content delivery to end-users throughout the greater Pittsburgh area," said Clint Heiden, chief commercial officer, EdgeConneX.

EdgeConneX EDCs are purpose-built and located in the perfect site with secure Tier II and Tier III facilities to house content with the lowest possible latency to local-market consumers. By forming partnerships with cable operators and networks at the local level, the selected sites are guaranteed the shortest and fastest routes for delivering content to their customers.

The new partnership between EdgeConneX and DQE Communications has taken these conditions and met each every one of them to make sure both companies will be able to deliver faster connectivity and Internet access in Pittsburgh.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
