Fortinet Announces FortiGate VMX Solution, Partnership with VMware

October 15, 2015

Fortinet is one of the global leaders when it comes to high-performance cybersecurity solutions. Earlier this week, the company announced the launch of their new FortiGate VMX next-generation and internal segmentation firewall (NGFW/ISFW). This solution allows organizations to better automate their advanced cybersecurity applications in any Software-defined Data Centers they may operate.

Fortinet has launched this particular platform in collaboration with VMware in order to fully leverage the capabilities of the entire VMware NSX network virtualization platform. In laymen’s terms, this means customers will be able to fully automate insertion, deployment and operation of the FortiGate VMX for massive threat protection when they are operating inside their data center environments.

“NTT Com Security has been working closely with our clients and industry leaders like Fortinet to leverage the security benefits of network virtualization," Dave Polton, chief technology architect at NTT Com Security, a client of VMware and Fortinet said in a release announcing the new platform. "Bringing cloud and security technologies together with the VMware vSphere and VMware NSX platforms enables our clients to benefit from greater security and efficiency as we transition them to a fully Software-Defined Data Centre (SDDC), while empowering our customers with even better levels of managed service."

There have been a massive number of big time security breaches in the past few years. Companies like Symantec and Frost Data have been working overtime in order to bring tighter security to their clients. VMWare and its partnership with Fortinet allows for an SDDC approach to network security with micro-segmentation. The security platform is able to isolate communications across networks that weren’t previously related. The program will allow clients to also work with a number of advanced security services such as Fortinet’s Internal Segmentation Firewalls (ISFW). With this partnership, the companies feel they are offering the same kind of security inside the data center that they do at the perimeter.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
