Packet Design Purchase to Boost Blue Planet

June 01, 2018

A key component of creating adaptive networks is automation, as by leveraging intelligent automation service delivery and network performance experience enhancement and this is simply a small slice of the evolution of the modern network operator’s approach.

Ciena is driving change with a robust portfolio of adaptive networking solutions, and this week is elevating the Blue Planet intelligent automation platform with the announcement of a definitive agreement to acquire Packet Design. The Packet Design purchase pairs network performance software with an already comprehensive portfolio.

The acquisition extends Blue Planet’s intelligent automation capabilities beyond layer 2, working toward providing customers with optimized service delivery and maximized service utilization. Ciena notes the additions of Packet Design’s performance analytics and service path computation capabilities will elevate Blue Planet in a big way – continuing to lead the charge toward adaptive networks and enhanced intelligent automation.

The transaction should close in Q3 2018, with more details to come.

“Blue Planet is already one of the premier brands in the network automation space. The addition of Packet Design will enhance our position by enabling customers to realize networks that are more adaptive – capable of self-optimizing and self-healing for faster time-to-market for new services, more efficient and lower cost network operations, and the ability to deliver an overall better customer experience,” noted Rick Hamilton, senior vice president of Global Software and Services at Ciena.

Network operators are faced with rigorous requirements and mounting demands, as in this cloud-powered era of transformation the first steps in this journey are in the network.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
