ADVA's Demarc Device Includes Pluggable Server

April 11, 2017

ADVA Optical Networking has come out with a new box that it says will ease communications service providers’ migration to network functions virtualization (NFV).

The FSP 150 ProVMe demarcation device aims to do that through the combination of its physical and virtual network functions, including its hot-swappable, pluggable server.

“For so many customers, the latest addition to our One Network Edge family is the missing piece of the puzzle,” said Ulrich Kohn, director of technical marketing at ADVA Optical Networking. “We've focused on VNF service assurance and implemented unique hardware-based support functions. With our integrated carrier-grade server, we're giving CSPs an NFV roadmap with no risks, no unknowns and no unnecessary costs. What's more, our new, pluggable FSP 150 ProVMe (P2.4) will help significantly with server lifecycle management. It makes the process of upgrading simple and efficient so new technology can be deployed as soon as it's developed.”

In addition to the hot-swappable, pluggable server, the FSP 150 ProVMe (P2.4) features low-latency forwarding, service assurance, tunneling, and VNF monitoring (implemented in hardware).

rightly questioning the business cases associated with SDN and NFV technology investments,” Martina Kurth, research director for Gartner, said in an interview last year. “What will the return on investment and the associated revenue potential for new virtualized services be? SDN and NFV can drive robust revenue from new digital services and service enhancements (such as on-demand virtual VPN services for enterprises) as well as enabling CSPs to access entirely new services and markets. This potential will be achieved through the greatly increased levels of operational efficiency, agility and service innovation that the new technologies bring. Early-mover CSPs should consider investments in SDN and NFV as the only way to take a technology market leadership position in the heavily saturated telecommunications marketplace.”

ADVA Optical Networking provides cloud access, cloud interconnect, security, and timing solutions. It is the No. 1 provider of Ethernet access devices globally, the No. 2 provider in the world of both enterprise data center interconnect solutions and network synchronization solutions, the second largest provider of metro WDM solutions in EMEA. The company caters to enterprise, government and educational companies, Internet and cloud players, and service providers. Its service provider customers include BT, Colt, DT, Masergy, Telefonica, Telecom Italia, TeliaSonera, Telstra, SingTel, and many others.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
