Gartner Names Cumulus 'Visionary'

July 06, 2017

Open networking, Web-scale networking and cloud computing are just some of today’s technologies that are set to serve networking far into the future. As network demands continue to increase, innovation must keep pace, and put enterprise to SMB in a position to succeed by supporting our SaaS-tastic era. While all are willing to admit the future is software-defined, flexible and open, others are grabbing the baton and running with it.

Today, Cumulus Networks announced it has been named a ‘Visionary’ in the July 2017 Gartner Quadrant for Data Center Networking report. The Web-scale networking firm received recognition for its open networking platform, Cumulus Linux. The recognition comes at a time when Cumulus is high on the hog of momentum. Allow me to explain.

In the past calendar year, Cumulus bookings have jumped by more than 200 percent. Already touting a client roster that contains nearly one-third of the Fortune 50, the firm reports more than 750 customer wins. The past year also includes a new and improved product portfolio, including the addition of NetQ – its first foray outside of the core OS – and Cumulus Express for those firms seeking to delve into web-scale principles. Cumulus supports the Open19 initiative to develop a new data center infrastructure standard, as well as showcase support for modular platform, as Facebook Backpack runs Cumulus Linux.

“We believe our position in the Visionaries quadrant this year, our first-ever placement in the Gartner Magic Quadrant, and market momentum for an open, disaggregated solution is validation of our founding belief that companies need to embrace web-scale architectures,” said Josh Leslie, CEO of Cumulus Networks. “While we now have more than 750 customers running Cumulus Linux, our work has only just begun - we’re going to continue creating new, innovative solutions like NetQ that build upon our foundation, Cumulus Linux, to give more businesses the tools they need to design, build and operate their infrastructure the web-scale networking way.”

Industry accolades serve to highlight those leading the way, and Cumulus is clearly intent on more of the same. Innovation will guide industry to the light at the end of the tunnel, and it will be firms like Cumulus ushering networking into a new era.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
