Italtel's Enterprise SDN Application Added to Cisco's Official Catalogue

June 19, 2017

Cisco's platform is integrated in many of the IT infrastructures deployed by public and private organizations. For vendors, becoming part of this network means access to a global customer base, which is what Italtel achieved by being included in Cisco's GPL catalogue.

Italtel is a company based in Italy, with a global reach. It designs, develops and implements products and solutions for networks and next generation communications services based on IP protocol. This includes VoIP, UC&C, HD video, interconnect solutions, next generation data center and mobile broadband with proprietary products, engineering and network consultancy services.

The company's Netwrapper application is a tool designed to improve operational efficiency across the board by increasing employee productivity and delivering better return on investment. The application leverages automation concepts enabled by the Enterprise SDN Controller Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure Controller Enterprise module (Cisco APIC-EM), and it was built on top of Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA).

Netwrapper makes it much easier for IT managers to better understand their network infrastructure. This understanding can be used to deliver better services to end users by allocating network resources to be distributed where they are needed based on the number of employees that are present on premises.

“The inclusion in Cisco's official catalogue is significant as not only is it the first time one of Italtel's products has been selected but it also shows the progress we are making in evolving from telco standardized products to agile software products for the enterprise market. We intend this result to be a starting point and plan to develop new applications, leveraging all of the possibilities that the Cisco platforms allow, from analytics to collaboration APIs,” said Camillo Ascione, Head of Strategic Alliances at Italtel.

As the policy engine of the Italtel Dynamic Admission Control solution, Netwrapper adopts a 4-layer enterprise SDN approach made of the applications, enterprise controller, programmable networks and human interaction layers. This visibility allows the app to deliver the best quality of experience (QoE) for UC&C service needs.

According to Italtel, the goal is not to exceed the service provider’s Service Level Agreement (SLA) bandwidth usage of multiple UC&C applications by providing a smart usage of higher-priority class of services.

Italtel was able to become part of the Cisco GPL catalogue after joining the Cisco Solution Plus program and collaborating with Cisco business units.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
