TierPoint, Others Grow Data Center Facilities

May 08, 2017

There’s a whole lot of investment in data centers these days.

For example, TierPoint LLC is expanding its data center campus in Hawthorne, NY in an effort to meet growing demand from its customers in the New York metropolitan and the northeast region of the U.S.

The effort will entail the addition of more than 38,000 square feet of raised floor to the facility. More than a third of that will be part of a $13 million build during phase one of the project. The phase one facilities should be ready for use starting in November.

The addition will mark the third expansion of TierPoint’s Hawthorne campus. Right now, the facility includes a data center with 52,000 square feet

of raised floor. It also has a business continuity/disaster recovery center of more than 70,000 square feet. All TierPoint data centers, by the way, are GLBA, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and SOC 2 Type II compliant.

This latest build will help TierPoint better address the needs of its customers in such verticals as the financial services and healthcare sectors. Its financial industry customers, TierPoint notes, require ultra-low latency network connections to midtown and lower Manhattan.

CyrusOne of Texas is also expanding its data center space. The company recently opened a 184,000-square-foot facility in San Antonio.

The company now operates 407,000 square feet of facilities. And it’s in the midst of adding a fourth data center.

Equinix last month announced plans to open five new data centers and to expand 14 of its existing ones. That’s all part of a $1 billion expansion plan set to happen this year.

And the Phoenix City Council this week is expected to vote on the expansion plans of IO Data Centers LLC. The company hopes to expand its facilities by 500,000 square feet.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
