Transforming Network Infrastructure Week in Review: Fiber Mountain, Zombies, Virtualization & More

January 07, 2017

It is official: We are neck deep in the digital era. Digital transformation has taken hold, and from the data center and the contact center to the conference room and the c-suite, the benefits are blooming. The transformation of network infrastructure is happening before our eyes, and with the weekend upon us there’s no time better than the present to take a look back at the week that was: Time for the Week in Review!

Next month, the Broward County Convention Center will play host to ITEXPO, and leading up to the event Fiber Mountain’s Bill Miller was kind enough to take a few minutes to talk shop and offer an industry veteran’s expectations for the upcoming event. The complete interview is HERE.

Shows like The Walking Dead have put zombies – excuse me, walkers – on the front page, but enterprises are dealing with an entirely other kind of zombie that is wreaking havoc on operations. In short, zombie servers consume space, cooling and electricity, yet provide no compute resources. TMC’s Laura Stotler takes a deep look at this phenomenon and how you can combat them HERE.

This week, the IDC unveiled its Innovators report, which recognized three vendors in the data center cooling and environment management arena –

keeping a focus on smaller firms working with industry-leading technology. The three vendors OptiCool, Romonet and Vigilent were singled out for innovation, and everything you need to know is HERE.

Burgeoning areas of development today like network virtualization and SDN are earning well-deserved attention. And new research from ReportsnReports.com delves into the global data center fabric market, placing a valuation of $9 billion for 2017, and estimates the space to reach $13 billion by 2021. TMC’s Paula Bernier will take you through the paces of the report HERE.

The Transforming Network Infrastructure Community is a resource for those in the data center and networking space. Spanning primarily the topics of Optical Networking, Virtualization and Hyperscale Data Centers – the forefront of network infrastructure transformation – we are always looking to hear from you! Remember to stop by early and often for all things network transformation. See you next week!

Day 3 of Cisco Live is history! For Fiber Mountain, we continued to enjoy visits from decision makers and influencers who were eager to share their data center and structured cabling challenges.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.

Day 1, Cisco Live!

Fiber Mountain is exhibiting at Cisco Live! In Las Vegas for the first time ever! Our first day was hugely successful from just about any perspective - from quantity and quality of booth visitors to successful meetings with customers.
