Champion ONE Launches GPON & EPON Transceivers

Champion ONE (News - Alert), a leading provider of optical transceivers and passive network systems, is announcing the general availability of both Gigabit Passive Optical Networking (GPON) and 10G Ethernet Passive Optical Networking (EPON) protocols for fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) applications. These new transceivers will be sold under Champion ONE's Passport™ line of universal transceivers.

The GPON protocols are supported by SFP transceivers, and are specified for both Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Unit (ONU) usages. 10G EPON protocols are supported by both SFP+ and XFP transceivers; the SFP+ is specified for both OLT and ONU, while the XFP is specified for OLT use only.

"With the advent of streaming video and other high-speed srvices, the need for higher bandwidth continues to fuel growth in demand for FTTP applications. Companies like Verizon, Google (News - Alert), Comcast and AT&T are investing heavily in this fast-growing market," said John Jutila, Champion ONE CEO. "Now with our new portfolio of GPON and EPON products, Champion ONE is well positioned to help meet the needs of these service providers and others that require demanding OLT and ONU transceiver deployment support and value."

All Champion ONE transceivers are compliant with their respective MSAs. These transceivers serve as a direct replacement for hot pluggable OEM transceivers and carry an industry leading 5-year warranty.

Reflections from an Interop Veteran and Alum

When I returned to the Fiber Mountain™ offices in Connecticut after exhibiting at Interop Las Vegas 2015, I couldn’t help but think about how much the event has evolved through the years. I have been attending this seminal IT and networking conference since its inception in 1986 when it was called the TCP/IP Vendor Workshop, focused on interoperability of various TCP/IP program stacks.

What Fiber Mountain's Interop Recognition Means for Our Industry

When Fiber Mountain™ began its journey with a launch at Interop New York last fall, we certainly believed that we had a solution that would make a significant impact in the data center space.

What On-Board Optics Means for Density and Flexibility

This past week I read an article in Lightwave Magazine and another in Network World about the formation of the Consortium for On-board Optics (COBO), a group that seeks to create specifications and increase the faceplate density of data center switches and adapters.

Scaling Hyperscale in an Age of Exponential Growth and Virtualization

Over the past several years server, network, storage and application virtualization has revolutionized the way hyperscale data centers are built by consolidating workloads. The trend has simplified network architecture significantly and resulted in huge cost savings as well.
