Research and Markets: C-RAN Architecture Networking Gear a $14 Billion Opportunity Says 'The Wireless Network Infrastructure Ecosystem: 2015 - 2020'

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/pmlpxk/the_wireless) has announced the addition of SNS Research's new report "The Wireless Network Infrastructure Ecosystem: 2015 - 2020 - Macrocell RAN, Small Cells, C-RAN, RRH, DAS, Carrier WiFi, Mobile Core, Backhaul & Fronthaul" to their offering.

The Wireless Network Infrastructure Ecosystem: 2015 - 2020 indicates that global spending on C-RAN architecture networking gear is expected to reach $14 Billion annually by 2020.

Centralized RAN or C-RAN is an architectural shift in RAN (Radio Access Network) design, where the bulk of baseband processing is centralized and aggregated for a large number of distributed radio nodes. In comparison to standalone clusters of base stations, C-RAN provides significant performance and economic benefits such as baseband pooling, enhanced coordination between cells, virtualization, network extensibility, smaller deployment footprint and reduced power consumption.

While Japan and South Korea continue to drive a majority of commercial C-RAN investments, other operators in the rest of the world are also keen to migrate towards C-RAN. China Mobile (News - Alert), Orange, Telenor and Sprint are already trailing the architecture. China Mobile has shown a 30% reduction in CapEx and a53% reduction in OpEx in its C-RAN trials.

SNS Research estimates that global wireless network infrastructure spending on C-RAN deployments will grow at a CAGR of 23% between 2015 and 2020. By the end of 2020, C-RAN architecture infrastructure investments will account for nearly $14 Billion. The investments will include spending on RRHs (Remote Radio Heads), C-RAN small cells, BBUs (Baseband Units) and fronthaul transport networking gear.

These findings are part SNS Research's "*Wireless Network Infrastructure Ecosystem: 2015 - 2020 - Macrocell RAN, Small Cells, C-RAN, RRH, DAS, Carrier WiFi (News - Alert), Mobile Core, Backhaul & Fronthaul*" report. The report presents an in-depth assessment of 10 individual submarkets of the wireless network infrastructure opportunity. Besides analyzing key market drivers, challenges, enabling technologies, investment trends, operator revenue potential, regional CapEx commitments, network rollout strategies, future roadmap, 5G R&D initiatives, value chain, vendor assessment and market share, the report also presents revenue and unit shipment forecasts for 10 submarkets from 2015 to 2020 at a regional as well as a global scale. Historical figures are also provided for 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014.

The report will be of value to current and future potential investors into the wireless sector, as well as wireless carriers and infrastructure/device vendors who wish to broaden their knowledge of the ecosystem.

Reflections from an Interop Veteran and Alum

When I returned to the Fiber Mountain™ offices in Connecticut after exhibiting at Interop Las Vegas 2015, I couldn’t help but think about how much the event has evolved through the years. I have been attending this seminal IT and networking conference since its inception in 1986 when it was called the TCP/IP Vendor Workshop, focused on interoperability of various TCP/IP program stacks.

What Fiber Mountain's Interop Recognition Means for Our Industry

When Fiber Mountain™ began its journey with a launch at Interop New York last fall, we certainly believed that we had a solution that would make a significant impact in the data center space.

What On-Board Optics Means for Density and Flexibility

This past week I read an article in Lightwave Magazine and another in Network World about the formation of the Consortium for On-board Optics (COBO), a group that seeks to create specifications and increase the faceplate density of data center switches and adapters.

Scaling Hyperscale in an Age of Exponential Growth and Virtualization

Over the past several years server, network, storage and application virtualization has revolutionized the way hyperscale data centers are built by consolidating workloads. The trend has simplified network architecture significantly and resulted in huge cost savings as well.
