Transforming Network Infrastructure Week in Review: Coriant, Juniper, PacketFabric, Zerto

February 04, 2017

Transforming Network Infrastructure marked the holiday yesterday by posting a guest piece by Jennifer Gill of Zerto. That piece is titled “Why the Airline Industry is Stuck in an IT Groundhog Day”.

It talks about how the airlines, as well as businesses in a variety of other verticals, continue to suffer again and again with IT failures. And it discusses how these organizations can put in place hybrid cloud solutions for better business continuity and disaster recovery.

And while we’re on the topic of flora and fauna, we should mention what’s happening at Juniper Networks. The company, which shares its name with a family coniferous plants, has come out with the Unite Cloud platform. It aims to simplify the creation and management of hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

Elsewhere on the networking frontier, PacketFabric has announced its use of the Coriant Groove G30 data center interconnect platform. It enables the cloud networking services over Ethernet provider to deliver secure connectivity in the terabit range.

Speaking of security, Fortinet also authored a piece for Transforming Network Infrastructure this week. Chief Information Security Officer Phil Quade wrote the piece about how to define and secure the Internet of Things.

“IoT cannot be treated as an isolated or independent component of your business,” Quade cautioned. “IoT devices and data interact across and with your extended network, including endpoint devices, cloud, traditional and virtual IT and OT. Isolated IoT security strategies increase overhead and reduce broad visibility. To adequately protect IoT, organizations require an integrated and automated security architecture.”

Speaking of IoT security, it will be one of the key topics of discussion next week at IoT Evolution Expo in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. And business continuity, cloud communications, and data centers are all on the agenda for ITEXPO.

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
