Transforming Network Infrastructure Week in Review: Calix, Cognizant, AT&T and More

October 15, 2016

Transformation of network infrastructure is occurring all around us. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was this software-fueled shift. And with each passing day, innovation in SDN, NFV, the cloud and more are powering this digital transformation. With the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look at the week that was in network transformation: Time for the Week in Review!

Imagine a data center that could fit in the palm of your hand. In a world that has traditionally been bigger, faster, stronger, innovation has led us to a point where we are not from this reality. Washington State University has a research team on the task of digging further into this development, as it recently received a $1.2 million grant from the National Science Foundation. Steve Anderson’s complete report is HERE.

This week, Calix unveiled the AXOS E3-2 Intelligent PON Node, can be deployed in multiple settings and can be more easily serviced and integrated with other solutions.  Once deployed, an OLT at this point in the network allows the service provider increased flexibility and control over the configuration of their network infrastructure, allowing for a coexistence with remote PHY architecture and network function virtualization," said John Kendall, principal analyst, Connected Home at IHS Markit. Everything you need to know is HERE.

Businesses large and small from verticals far and wide are experiencing the digital transformation taking place. And this week Standard Life turned to Cognizant to aids in its IT improvements – namely a brand new infrastructure. TMC’s Steve Anderson has all the details HERE.

Software development is leading the charge in the wave of transformation at hand. And a key arena with growing support is SD-WAN. This week we saw AT&T throw its hat into the SD-WAN ring, partnering with VeloCloud to add another notch in its belt of offerings. The full story is HERE.

The Transforming Network Infrastructure Community is a resource for those in the data center and networking space. Spanning primarily the topics of Optical Networking, Virtualization and Hyperscale Data Centers – the forefront of network infrastructure transformation – we are always looking to hear from you! Remember to stop by early and often for all things network transformation. See you next week!

Day 3, Cisco Live! 2017

Day 3 of Cisco Live is history! For Fiber Mountain, we continued to enjoy visits from decision makers and influencers who were eager to share their data center and structured cabling challenges.

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.

Day 1, Cisco Live! 2017

Fiber Mountain is exhibiting at Cisco Live! In Las Vegas for the first time ever! Our first day was hugely successful from just about any perspective - from quantity and quality of booth visitors to successful meetings with customers.
