Transforming Network Infrastructure Week in Review: Cavium, CENX, Telefonica & More

June 04, 2016

Today’s digital world requires a lot from the network, and satisfying these demands starts in the data center. Areas of innovation like virtualization, the cloud, optical and more are transforming network infrastructure in real time. And, with the weekend upon us there is no better time than the present to take a look at the week that was in network transformation: Time for the Week in Review!

Leading off the week, TMC’s Steve Anderson reported on Cavium’s CloudScale Rack, providing firms with what Anderson refers to as, “a complete cloud data center all from one handy package.” CloudScale rack allows users to leverage higher performing switching tools, intelligent network interface controllers and make systems better equipped to address today’s network demands. Anderson’s complete coverage is HERE.

A question running through of heads of many today is, “How much of the network will be virtualized?’ It is paired with the question, “What will it run on?”  This week TMC’s Paula Bernier dug deep into this quandary.  There is no question that the industry’s future is software-defined; at this point it is more of a question of when than if. I’ll let Bernier’s analysis speak for itself, find it HERE.

Speaking of virtualization, this week CENX announced a new collaborative project with three vendors on open source SDN/NFV testing. The Canadian-firm found agreement in its partners in supporting OpenStack standards, and within CENX’s SDNFV Lab the four firms will get to work. TMC’s Christopher Mohr has everything you need to know HERE.

Also in the news this week, Telefonica opened a new facility for open cloud. The data center is in Chile, and it is one of the more advanced in South America. This marks Telefonica’s third data center in Chile, but the only one offering Open Cloud services based on Open Stack. Find Frank Griffin’s article HERE.

The Transforming Network Infrastructure Community is a resource for those in the data center and networking space, and this is our call for content. Optical Networking, Virtualization and Hyperscale Data Centers are the primary topics explored in depth – the forefront of network infrastructure transformation.

Day 3 of Cisco Live is history! For Fiber Mountain, we continued to enjoy visits from decision makers and influencers who were eager to share their data center and structured cabling challenges.

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
