ADVA Transforming Network Infrastructure with Global Optical Growth

December 20, 2016

As software defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) improve the way traffic is being transported, network and data center operators, telecoms, enterprises and hardware manufacturers are increasingly more reliant in optical technology. The adoption of these technologies is transforming network infrastructure, which is also affecting the data center interconnect (DCI) market as it also looks to optical technology to make its infrastructure  smarter and more efficient. This trend has given ADVA Optical Networking the largest gain it has ever achieved quarter on quarter (QoQ) in global DCI market share, according to Ovum's latest global market share report.

In addition to achieving this growth, the company was also named number one in both the metro ICP/CNP DCI and enterprise DCI categories, as well as garnering the top spot for total sales of metro WDM DCI by a factor of two compared to its nearest competitor.

The company achieved these numbers during the third quarter of 2016 by delivering a range of products including its ADVA MicroMux which supports legacy 10 and 40Gbit/s clients and ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect solution, with more than 35 new customers deploying its technology.

"At the heart of this rapid growth is our unique combination of innovation and customer focus. To create our FSP 3000 CloudConnect solution, we worked extremely closely with major ICP and CSP partners. Now, it's widely recognized as the most scalable, open and energy-efficient DCI platform available," said Brian Protiva, CEO, ADVA Optical Networking.

The DCI networks are facing incredible data demands, which requires ICPs and CSPs to find scalable solutions to address this problem. Transforming network infrastructure with optical technology increases the capability so the AVDA's FSP 3000 CloudConnect can transport up to 25.6Tbit/s duplex capacity per fiber pair from a single rack, delivering 51.2Tbit/s of total throughput at 1.4Tbit/s per rack unit.

This will provide a new level of efficiency in a configurable chassis with a small footprint taking up less rack space and consuming much less energy than competing technology. The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect is protected with the company's ConnectGuard encryption solution, which has been optimized for DCI applications with the highest security protocols.

"ADVA Optical Networking has had a long history working in the metro and enterprise DCI markets. By working with and responding to their customer base, they have achieved market share success. ADVA Optical Networking's latest focus has been working with the ICP/CNP community on metro DCI and they have recorded a very strong 2016 in that segment," said Ian Redpath, practice leader, components, transport and routing, Ovum.

Day 4 was the final day of our first ever Cisco Live! We had a great show, with many great conversations and new connections with existing and potential end users, resellers, partners and job hunters.

Day 3, Cisco Live!

Day 3 of Cisco Live is history! For Fiber Mountain, we continued to enjoy visits from decision makers and influencers who were eager to share their data center and structured cabling challenges.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.

Day 1, Cisco Live!

Fiber Mountain is exhibiting at Cisco Live! In Las Vegas for the first time ever! Our first day was hugely successful from just about any perspective - from quantity and quality of booth visitors to successful meetings with customers.
