Coriant Continues to Further Optical

September 23, 2016

As average consumers, every day we use technology that most of us do not appreciate. Allow me to clarify, the network is a complex architecture requiring many (I use this word lightly) “moving parts” to ensure that the Facebook video you just clicked on plays without a hitch, or the SaaS applications you so desperately need for your day to day office affairs performs flawlessly. This is no small task.

This week, Sogou, a Chinese firm that provides mobile Internet products and services, input solutions as well as search engines, announced it

has upgraded its network with the deployment of Coriant’s 7100 Nano Packet Optical Transport Platform. The new addition will serve as the new high-capacity Data Center Interconnect (DCI) network’s backbone.

“As the growth of value-added online applications and cloud-based services in China drives increased demand for Internet bandwidth, the underlying transport network supporting reliable connectivity between data centers is critical to delivering a superior user experience,” said Zhao Liyang, General Manager, Technology and Engineering Department, Sogou. “Coriant not only demonstrated a superior data center interconnect solution, but also met our critical time-to-market requirements with exceptional local support capabilities, including fast service commissioning and optical transport expertise.”

The deployment will address traffic surges between data centers and support for end-user applications services such as IM, online gaming, mobile search and video. The DCI solution was selected for meeting the users’ rigorous demands by offering high availability and being highly flexible.

Sogou deployed the Coriant Transport Network Management System for end –to-end management, providing a simplified provisioning process in addition to a slew of advanced features.

“Innovators like Sogou are rapidly changing the online experience and raising the bar for network performance and service availability,” said Petri Markkanen, Regional Vice President, Asia Pacific, Coriant. “The 7100 provides Sogou the resilient foundation for a versatile and cost-efficient metro DCI network that can handle the most demanding performance requirements.”

For those seeking a high-performing network, optical appears to be a vibrant light at the end of the tunnel. How’s your network?
