GCX, Sovereign Business Integration Group Interconnect

June 29, 2017

Global Cloud Xchange and Sovereign Business Integration Group have forged a new interconnection agreement. The deal has Sovereign connecting its Tier III data center in North London with the GCX Global Network.

As a result, enterprises will be able to co-locate and host IT infrastructure with Sovereign and gain access to the GCX connectivity, cloud, and managed network services, the companies explain. GCX Global Network is powered by a subsea cable and terrestrial networks that span Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.

“Our partnership with GCX will enable us to further support our clients in knowing that their business critical equipment is located in a secure U.K. data center with access to either local based IaaS or a variety of cloud providers whilst achieving the desire for an uncomplicated global reach,” stated an ETTelecom story reported by Joanna Sedley-Burke, the managing director at Sovereign, as saying.

Worldwide cloud IT infrastructure sales represented 37.2 percent of overall IT spending in the fourth quarter of last year, according to International Data Corp. That was up from 33.4 percent a year previous.

Meanwhile, IDC says, revenue from infrastructure sales to private cloud grew by 10.2 percent to $3.8 billion, and to public cloud by 5.3 percent to $5.4 billion.

“Network upgrades continue to be the focus of public cloud deployments, as network bandwidth has become by far the largest bottleneck in cloud data centers,” said Kuba Stolarski, research director for Computing Platforms at IDC.  “After some delays for a few hyperscalers, data center buildouts and refresh are expected to accelerate throughout 2017, built on newer generation hardware, primarily using Intel's Skylake architecture.”

A different market analyst firm, Technavio, earlier this year forecast the data center market in Europe will see a compound annual growth rate of 10.4 percent during the period 2016-2020. And it notes that Colt Technology Services, Digital Realty, Equinix, Global Switch, Interoute, Interxion, and NTT Communications are key vendors in this space.

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
