Transforming Network Infrastructure Week in Review: Cisco, Italtel, Huawei & More

June 24, 2017

All my bags are packed. I’m ready to go on a digital transformation road trip. Innovation is charting the course for the transformation of network infrastructure. Burgeoning areas of development like SDN, NFV and fiber optics – to name a few – show serious upside for operations today and capable of driving the network of tomorrow. So, with the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look back at the week that was in transforming network infrastructure news: Time for the Week in Review!

Cisco is a data center standard. This titan of transforming infrastructure is more than simply a major player in the space, so much so that being included in the company’s GPL catalogue is a big deal. This week, Italtel’s Enterprise SDN application earned this benchmark. TMC’s Frank Griffin gives you everything you need to know HERE.

VMware announced this week that its NSX virtualization platform achieved Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 2+ certification. In earning the new certification, it means the VMware meets government security standards and requirements. “Governments globally are working to optimize their IT spend and increasingly focused on delivering more value using limited resources,” said Milin Desai, vice president of product management of the networking and security business unit at VMware. “With VMware's software-defined approach that includes VMware NSX, we can deliver greater efficiency and security for existing systems while enabling a modern infrastructure that is both cloud and new-app ready.” TMC’s Paula Bernier has all the details HERE.

Also in the news, Huawei officially released its mesh backbone network solution at Next Generation Optical Networking (NGON) 2017. The industry first commercial Optical Cross-Connect and Optical Transport Network (OXC+OTN) cluster devices provide network operators the ability to deliver ultrahigh bandwidth to address the demands of enterprises, cloud services and Internet content providers. Complete coverage is HERE.

Did somebody say Cisco? This week, Cisco released its new intent-based networking solutions for the enterprise, which is aimed at addressing security concerns, adding automation and improving agility. “The new network delivers a world where you can connect billions of devices, identify them almost instantly, know what’s trustworthy and what isn’t, and draw exponential value from the connections – and you can do it in hours instead of weeks and months,” explains Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins in a June 20 blog. “This capability is so new and so vital, that in our view, it will free up businesses to pursue new opportunities — because big changes will seem less daunting and less risky.” Insight and analysis is HERE.

Remember to stop by early and often for all things transforming network infrastructure! See you next week!

Day 3 of Cisco Live is history! For Fiber Mountain, we continued to enjoy visits from decision makers and influencers who were eager to share their data center and structured cabling challenges.

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
