ECI Demos Neptune, Interop in Paris

March 29, 2017

ECI is showing its Neptune solution at MPLS+SDN+NFV World Congress this week in Paris.

Neptune is a family of packet solutions designed for service providers. It includes a model called the Neptune 1800, which delivers 100 gigabit Ethernet connectivity and support for Layer 2 and Layer 3 services. It also includes an NFVI blade to add new services, such as virtual firewalls, as needed.

Bharti Airtel Ltd. is among the customers using Neptune. LTE backhaul is among the applications that Neptune can support.

The Neptune solution from ECI was part of the European Advanced Networking Test Center’s Interoperability Showcase. The interoperability demonstration in which ECI participated focused on device configuration via NETCONF/YANG and remote loop free alternative fast reroute testing.

“Businesses are moving from legacy services to gigabit Ethernet, 10GE, and beyond,” noted Jimmy Mizrahi, executive vice president of global

portfolio at ECI. “Long term, metro solutions will require additional agility to keep up with the tidal wave of data, as 100GE interfaces permeate the metro edge. To support this evolution, metro edge networks will require a refresh in order to provide more intelligent, open aggregation of Layer 2 and Layer 3 services.”

The Neptune demonstrations are just the latest recent news announcement from ECI. The company earlier this month announced a new optical encryption-as-a-service solution. It’s aimed at financial, government, medical, and service provider entities. And service providers can use the new solution to build Layer 1 encryption services.

“In today’s world, information security is a critical business imperative for any institution,” said Mizrahi. “Communications traffic can be intercepted at any point in the network, via fiber taps for example, thus necessitating encryption to guarantee the integrity of the data being transmitted.”

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
