Transforming Network Infrastructure Week in Review: ADTRAN, Hess, Ensono & More

October 22, 2016

It’s no secret. The enterprise down to SMB, have the networking need for speed. The thirst for high performance, agility and reliability in the data center and network is serving as impetus for the digital transformation taking place. And as the great Ferris Bueller once said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around every once in awhile, you could miss it.” So, with the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look at the week that was in network transformation: Time for the Week in Review!

The community started the week with SDN news, as ADTRAN announced a few new network elements. The firm refers to the new solutions as software-defined access (SDA) network elements; formally the collection is the SDX series. The newly unveiled offerings provide the agility desired and the opportunity to create a data center-grade economics of scale. Steve Anderson has everything you need to know HERE.

Ensono announced the expansion of its managed hyperscale cloud services for AWS and Microsoft Azure. The new offerings promise to aid IT in optimizing resources and support mission-critical applications as well as workloads for enterprises around the globe. Michael Guta’s complete coverage is HERE.

Digital transformation continues to take hold across the spectrum of industries, and this week Accenture announced it is assisting Hess in its shift toward an “As-a-service” model. Managing Director of Accenture Energy John Coffey explained, “Hess is pioneering cloud capabilities, big data, and machine learning technologies in the energy industry to reduce cost and inefficiency across the company, including maintenance and operations.”He continued, “Digital as-a-service capabilities, such as predictive analytics, can improve not only maintenance and uptime by heading off incidents, but also well reservoir planning and design; drilling and completions; and remote well monitoring.” Casey Houser’s full report is HERE.

In the virtualization world, VMware is a prominent player. Telefonica, the Spanish multi-national telco, has announced a strengthened partnership with VMware centered on its Virtual Data Center (VDC) solution – VDC 3.0. The result will be an expanded portfolio for Telefonica. Tracey Schelmetic has all the details HERE.

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
