Transforming Network Infrastructure Week in Review: Telstra, Intel Microsoft & More

The time of transformation is upon us, as developers dabble with maturing arenas of innovation like SDN and NFV the network of today has come a long way from just a few short years ago. As I’ve said time and time again in the Transforming Network Infrastructure Community, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it,” so in that spirit with the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look at the week that was: Time for the Week in Review.

This week, Australian broadband and mobile giant, Telstra announced a serious investment in upgrading its infrastructure. Over the next three years, the firm will dish out $2.3 billion to ensure that it can avoid network outages – like the ones it recently experienced. Complete coverage is HERE.

Also in the news, Intel initiated shipping of its silicon photonics products. Intel explained the offerings utilize integrated circuit and semiconductor laser technology to provide improved efficiency for the transfer of traffic from switches and servers in the data center. Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
