Transforming Network Infrastructure Week in Review: Stratoscale, Brexit, Atlanta Falcons & More

August 20, 2016

The theme for the week in Transforming Network Infrastructure is changes. Whether it’s the U.K. changing its allegiance, the NFL getting a new high-tech stadium, changing partners or energy usage in the data center change is upon us.

Let’s start with sports. Typically, sports stadiums don’t come fully equipped with a high-power data center, but the Atlanta Falcon’s new home, Mercedes Benz Stadium does. The facility touts itself as one that will provide fans a robust network and engagement experience. Andrew Bindelglass has everything you need to know HERE.

Paula Bernier took a plunge into data center energy usage this week. Her exploration led to a simple truth, while traditionally data centers can be categorized as “energy hogs,” major strides have been made in lowering the environmental impact: a welcome change. Bernier’s complete analysis can be found HERE.

Also in the news this week, Stratoscale and Drulogic announced a newly minted partnership to provide better solutions to customers. “With Stratoscale’s comprehensive cloud data center software, we’re able to provide cloud capabilities that meet the IT demands of our customers requiring next-generation data center technologies,” said Pankaj Sharma, CEO at Drulogic. Alicia Young breaks down the partners’ plans HERE.

This week saw our recent community poll results reported. Brexit is bringing with it many questions. With a timetable of couple years before any major changes will take place, the possible effect on the data center market is still some time away. But that doesn’t mean it’s not something you should keep your eye on. In simple terms, Brexit boils down to patience. The complete report is HERE.

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
