Dell Launches Datacenter Scalable Solutions to Serve Near-Hyperscale Market

August 26, 2015

Computer technology giant Dell Inc. introduced Dell Data Center Solutions (DCS) several years ago in order to supply the rapidly growing hyperscale market with cutting-edge technology and fully customizable solutions for some of the world’s largest datacenter environments. The company has attained widespread success in this market segment and has now shifted its efforts to addressing the needs of businesses in the segment just below hyperscale, with the recently announced launch of Dell Datacenter Scalable Solutions (DSS).

This segment is growing almost three times faster than the traditional hyperscale market and is populated primarily by web tech and hosting companies, telecommunications service providers, oil and gas providers and research organizations. These customers will benefit immensely from the availability of DSS, which leverages Dell’s enterprise and DCS portfolio under a new operating model to deliver high-quality, optimized solutions that meet each organization’s particular needs.

“Dell Datacenter Scalable Solutions is a prime example of how Dell, as a private company, is able to be more nimble, make faster decisions and – most importantly – drive innovation on behalf of its customers,” commented Ashley Gorakhpurwalla, Vice President and General Manager of Server Solutions at Dell. “While others in the IT industry have been focused on marketing hype or reducing capex costs only, we’ve created a new operating model that is centered around flexibility. DSS is about understanding customers’ goals and enabling them to achieve those objectives by giving them purpose-built solutions that are designed when and how they want it.”

The company’s in-depth experience with meeting specific high-volume needs is enhanced by global support and supply chain capabilities, ensuring customers are provided with fully-custom infrastructure that best suits their needs. DSS’ innovatively fast and agile operating model allows development of new fully optimized hardware designs, enhanced fulfillment models and accelerated product introductions. Dell has demonstrated its ability to build effective new system designs for the market and achieved success with its supply chain optimizations and custom configurations, and the next few months will reportedly bring an initial wave of DSS-branded products.

Of course, Dell customers implementing DSS offerings have full access to the company’s flexible warranty and financing options as well as extensive support network. Organizations with high-volume needs in the near-hyperscale space looking for tailored solutions will thus benefit considerably from this unique new solution set.

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
