Mellanox and Synopsys Demonstrate PCIe 4.0 Interoperability

March 03, 2015

Mellanox Technologies has announced a partnership with Synopsys that will bring the world its first demonstration of PCIe 4.0 Interoperability at PCI-SIG® Developers Conference Israel. The collaboration between Mellanox—leading supplier of end-to-end InfiniBand and Ethernet interconnect solutions—and Synopsys—a dominant force in the electronic Design Automation industry—yielded interoperability between  PCIe 4.0 port (by Mellanox) and  DesignWare PHY IP for PCI Express 4.0 (by  Synopsys ).

The new electrical solution boosts the PCIe link from 8GT/S to 16GT/S, delivering unprecedented capabilities for data centers at a time when ever-expanding data growth and  energy costs precipitates exponential future demands in data centers worldwide.

“PCIe 4.0 will help enable future hyperscale data center and cloud infrastructures to efficiently handle the ever-increasing amount of data and its demand on the network,” said Shai Cohen, COO, at Mellanox Technologies.

This new benchmark means that data centers with 200Gb/s links are in the works. It has been suggested that attempt to maximize efficiency with the mounting demands shoveled on data centers without electrical solutions such as this would be like trying to thread a needle with a 747. While companies are currently handling demands—with occasional hurdles—the answer for the future where the need for speed has become essential is basically to make a bigger eye for the needle. In this case, the eye is a complex electrical entity that has to function efficiently for the sake of the people trying to thread it.

John Koeter, vice president of marketing for IP and prototyping at Synopsys, says that thanks to this recent collaboration, it will.

“Synopsys invests heavily in the development of high-quality PCI Express IP that meets the high-performance, low-latency requirements of the enterprise market,” Koeter said. He added, “Synopsys’ successful interoperability demonstration with Mellanox gives designers confidence that they can incorporate Synopsys’ IP for PCI Express 4.0 into their SoCs with significantly less risk.”

Day 3, Cisco Live! 2017

Day 3 of Cisco Live is history! For Fiber Mountain, we continued to enjoy visits from decision makers and influencers who were eager to share their data center and structured cabling challenges.

Day 2, Cisco Live! 2017

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
