Echelon and Aditel Partner to Expand LonWorks Dealer Network Throughout Latin America

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 30, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON), the world's leading control networking platform provider, today announced that it is expanding its presence in Latin America through a new partnership with Aditel Sistemas, a service provider and reseller of control networking products. Aditel has successfully worked with Echelon's LonWorks® products in Europe and has recently opened offices in Mexico and Colombia to take advantage of the fast-growing building automation and street lighting markets in Latin America, which are expected to grow 20 percent year over year, which is two to three times faster than Western European or North America market growth rates (per IMS Research).

"Our distribution agreement with Echelon will allow us to take full advantage of our already strong presence in the building automation industry in several countries in Latin America," said Victor Canete, CEO of Aditel Sistemas. "With Echelon's products, we can offer our building automation OEMs and integrators the flexibility of multi-vendor interoperability and minimum implementation risk. Echelon's LonWorks transceivers like the FT 5000 and PL 3100 will enable our OEM customers to quickly add LonWorks interfaces to their devices, while Echelon's Smart Server gateway that integrates LonWorks networks and devices to other networks such as BACnet and Modbus, will allow our OEMs and system integrator customers to participate in virtually all building automation projects." "Aditel's offices in Latin America will also increase our exposure to street lighting projects in the region," said Anders Axelsson, senior vice president sales and marketing, Commercial and Internet of Things, at Echelon. "Initiatives such as Mexico's National Project for Streetlight Energy Efficiency are providing funding to municipalities to update their streetlights with the energy savings being used to pay back their investments. Our CPD 3000 lighting controller and Smart Server based segment controller are the most proven and cost effective solution for municipalities and cities looking to control the costs of highway and street lighting." About Aditel Aditel was established in 1997 to meet the needs of control network integrators that use LonWorks technology as a means to communicate with and control devices. Aditel has the training, certifications and experience to add value and help clients in the implementation of their projects. With products and services provided by Aditel, an integrator can handle any control and automation project regardless of size. They have strategic alliances with suppliers that allow them to offer clients both stability and technical leadership. Visit Aditel at

The History of Fiber in Data Centers, Part II

As I stated at the close of "The History of Data Centers, Part I," Fiber Mountain™ believes data centers must evolve from hub and spoke architecture—in which traffic is aggregated and delivered to a central hub—to a design that includes many direct connections.

Three Things Your Boss Wants—No, Needs—To Know About Glass Core

Fiber Mountain™ CEO and Founder— plus my longtime friend—M.H. Raza does a terrific job on this blog of explaining how our Glass Core™ architecture transforms the way data centers build their network infrastructure.

The History of Fiber in Data Centers, Part I: Past and Present

Fiber Mountain, as our company name suggests, believes fiber cabling must play a central role in helping data centers scale affordably as bandwidth needs continue to grow. Before I go further down the path to the future, however, I want to back up and provide a high-level history of fiber in the data center.

Four Reasons to Make the Leap to SDN in Your Data Center

I'm always fascinated by what causes a business trend to emerge, grow and sometimes expand to actually redefining the industry as a whole. Having spent years in the technology field, I've found the networking sector particularly exciting in this regard because true innovation can and does transform entire segments of our industry. Revolutionary processes and technologies make past deployments and best practices look laughable in light of recent innovations.

Reflections From the Fiber Mountain Launch

Over the past weeks and months, the Fiber Mountain team has worked hard to prepare for our company launch at this year's Interop New York. In this post, I want to share our thoughts from the days leading up to the October 1st unveiling and about the event itself at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan.
