C Spire Wireless Selects Tekelec for LTE New Diameter Network

MORRISVILLE, N.C. --(Business Wire)--

U.S. operator C Spire Wireless is deploying Tekelec's Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) to deliver personalized services on its LTE (News - Alert) network.

The DSR intelligently routes the policy, charging, roaming, authorization, authentication and mobility management messages that enable mobile data services. These messages communicate using the Diameter protocol.

Tekelec's (News - Alert) DSR will support subscribers' personalized LTE experience by enabling C Spire to:

  • Offer new and innovative LTE services. The DSR binds a subscriber's mobile data activities - including browsing and voice over LTE (VoLTE) - to a single policy server. This allows C Spire to offer new tightly integrated VoLTE and data services.
  • Manage Diameter signaling traffic. All of C Spire's Diameter traffic will flow through the DSR, giving the operator a central nervous system to intelligently route messages across network elements. This reduces the risk of signaling overloads and balances network resources to reduce congestion, allowing subscribers maximum use of C Spire's LTE capabilities.
  • Secure the LTE network. The DSR provides a secure interconnection to partner networks, protecting private network and subscriber from third parties.

"An efficient, reliable network is critical for our customers to use mobile data when and how they want, at an affordable price," said David Smith, vice president of Network Engineering for C Spire Wireless. "Tekelec's Diameter Signalng Router is an essential element for C Spire to offer creative voice and data services for consumer and enterprise customers."

Tekelec has 75 percent to 85 percent share of the Diameter signaling control market, according to industry analyst firm Exact Ventures, including eight North American mobile operators.

"C Spire rapidly rolled out LTE last year, and is architecting a New Diameter Network from the get go," said Tekelec CTO Doug Suriano. "This allows C Spire to personalize broadband services for both consumers and enterprises."

Reflections from an Interop Veteran and Alum

When I returned to the Fiber Mountain™ offices in Connecticut after exhibiting at Interop Las Vegas 2015, I couldn’t help but think about how much the event has evolved through the years. I have been attending this seminal IT and networking conference since its inception in 1986 when it was called the TCP/IP Vendor Workshop, focused on interoperability of various TCP/IP program stacks.

What Fiber Mountain's Interop Recognition Means for Our Industry

When Fiber Mountain™ began its journey with a launch at Interop New York last fall, we certainly believed that we had a solution that would make a significant impact in the data center space.

What On-Board Optics Means for Density and Flexibility

This past week I read an article in Lightwave Magazine and another in Network World about the formation of the Consortium for On-board Optics (COBO), a group that seeks to create specifications and increase the faceplate density of data center switches and adapters.

Scaling Hyperscale in an Age of Exponential Growth and Virtualization

Over the past several years server, network, storage and application virtualization has revolutionized the way hyperscale data centers are built by consolidating workloads. The trend has simplified network architecture significantly and resulted in huge cost savings as well.
