Fort Wayne police seek suspects in 3 robberies

Nov 22, 2012 (The News-Sentinel (Fort Wayne - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Fort Wayne Police warned of a holiday-season spike in crime this week after robbers targeted three different east-side businesses in one day.

Just hours after a Georgetown bank was robbed Tuesday, a man walked into a dollar store a quarter-mile down the street and held it up at gunpoint, Fort Wayne police said. A grocery east of downtown also reported a robbery.

"Right around the holidays is when these crimes increase, and it's usually robberies to businesses and individuals that go up," said Fort Wayne Police spokeswoman Officer Raquel Foster. "Your perpetrators, they're looking for quick access to cash." At about 2:22 p.m., a man allegedly approached a cashier at Dollar General, 6414 E. State Blvd., with two cans of soda and acted as if he was going to make a purchase. Instead, he pulled out a handgun and demanded cash, Foster said Wednesday in a statement.

Earlier Tuesday, at about 10:30 a.m., police said a man robbed the Georgetown Chase Bank, 6704 E. State. Although both robberies occurred within walking distance of one another, descriptions of the suspects indicate that they were not committed by the same person.

Police described the suspect in the Dollar General robbery as a man in his early 20s, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8, weighing about 155 pounds. He had a pockmarked face, a "scraggly" mustache and possibly a discolored left eye described as very light blue -- almost white -- according to Foster.

The suspect in the Chase Bank robbery was last seen wearing a black baseball cap and dark hooded jacket.

And at about 11:47 a.m. the same day, a worker at the Burger Dairy store at 1450 St. Joseph Blvd. told police a man and woman had come into the store and ordered the clerk to open the cash register. The store worker told police that the woman had a gun, according to a police report.

Witnesses described the man as tall with a thin build and the woman as very small. Each was wearing a hooded shirt or jacket, according to the report.

The History of Fiber in Data Centers, Part II

As I stated at the close of "The History of Data Centers, Part I," Fiber Mountain™ believes data centers must evolve from hub and spoke architecture—in which traffic is aggregated and delivered to a central hub—to a design that includes many direct connections.

Three Things Your Boss Wants—No, Needs—To Know About Glass Core

Fiber Mountain™ CEO and Founder— plus my longtime friend—M.H. Raza does a terrific job on this blog of explaining how our Glass Core™ architecture transforms the way data centers build their network infrastructure.

The History of Fiber in Data Centers, Part I: Past and Present

Fiber Mountain, as our company name suggests, believes fiber cabling must play a central role in helping data centers scale affordably as bandwidth needs continue to grow. Before I go further down the path to the future, however, I want to back up and provide a high-level history of fiber in the data center.

Four Reasons to Make the Leap to SDN in Your Data Center

I'm always fascinated by what causes a business trend to emerge, grow and sometimes expand to actually redefining the industry as a whole. Having spent years in the technology field, I've found the networking sector particularly exciting in this regard because true innovation can and does transform entire segments of our industry. Revolutionary processes and technologies make past deployments and best practices look laughable in light of recent innovations.

Reflections From the Fiber Mountain Launch

Over the past weeks and months, the Fiber Mountain team has worked hard to prepare for our company launch at this year's Interop New York. In this post, I want to share our thoughts from the days leading up to the October 1st unveiling and about the event itself at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan.
